Past Projects
Over the years, the ABC has worked with broadcasters and other media-related organisations throughout world. Read on to find out about some of our former projects.
Pacific
The ABC has a long history of strong partnerships with broadcasters across the Pacific. We have worked with Tonga Broadcasting Commission and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited to develop performance management systems. We have also provided assistance to public broadcasters and media-related organisations in Cook Islands, Kiribati, New Zealand and Samoa. |
AsiaIn the 1990s, the ABC undertook a major program of activities to build the capacity of public broadcasters in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam to produce and deliver services. The ABC has also run short-term assistance projects with broadcasters in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. These initiatives range from crisis reporting training and editorial policy development in Indonesia to teaching television production skills to disadvantaged youth in Vietnam. China’s national broadcaster, CCTV, has invited us to work with them in recent years. In 2004, we undertook a training program for the network’s news and current affairs producers. The following year, the ABC hosted a series of broadcast workshops for journalists, producers and technical staff from CCTV, in addition to Singapore’s MediaCorp. More recently, ABC International Development hosted a delegation of journalists from Bhutan Broadcasting Service to assist in their preparations for providing media coverage of Bhutan’s first-ever general elections in 2008. |
AfricaIn the 1990s the ABC worked closely with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) during the country’s transition from apartheid to democracy. The five-year project worked with SABC to develop its role as a national broadcaster. Activities included:
